Why?

Delicate wings unfold

Opaque fine lines

Bright coloured patterns

Ward off predators

Vulnerable I am

Hide from the light

Shamed by my words

Veil my emotions

Head in the sand

Keep to myself

The cloak around

Bottle my feelings

Why did I speak?

Foolish I am

Alone once more

Is it Spring?

Slate grey are the rolling clouds
Menacing and heavy with thought
Bright yellow is the sun that shines
Between the clouds casting light
Clear is the wind that blows
Softly dancing around
White are the flakes of snow
That drift slowly to the ground
Cold is the April day
A reminder winter is not over

Alone

Day 26 of Napowrimo

That lance of light that slid across the dark

I watch as it swiftly disappeared

That cloak of darkness shrouds the light

Time ticks as I wait for it to depart

That blanket of quietness masking every sound

I listen for a sign I am not alone

That cloud of stillness resonating around me

I feel its coldness on my skin

That weight of heaviness as I fall asleep

I am unaware of time slipping by

That shard of light that peeps through the curtains

I am still alone, in the tranquility of morning.

Ashdown forest

Ancient tranquil heathland
Bathed in dappled light
Dark farrows start to change
As winter turns to spring
Purple heather grows in clumps
Yellow gauze dazzling in sunlight
Covering patches over the forest
In the heart of the high Weald
Lies a forest of natural beauty
Small rabbits dart around bracken
Deers graze camouflaged by trees
This home of Winnie the Pooh
Enchanted forest to explore
With pathways stretching
Across hills and downs
This Ashdown forest
Such a privilege to enjoy

Snow White’s Robin

Day 21 of napowrimo

I saw her coming closer

She didn’t see me hide

I watched her knock on the door

I flew onto the roof.

No one answered, she stepped inside

I flew to the window sill.

She looked around the little house

I kept very still

She counted all the chairs

I was brave and hopped inside

She counted all the cups and plates

i watched her as she moved

she climbed the stairs and counted beds

i flew to the edge of the room

She lay down on the little bed

I hopped onto the post

She closed her eyes and dozed right off

I closed my eyes as well.

Suddenly I heard loud shouts

My feathers shook

‘Who is this girl’ a little man said

I wanted just to hide

She opened her eyes and said ‘hello’

The little men stood back

‘Hello little robin were you looking after me?’

She asked as she stroked my head

I nodded slowly and looked around

The seven men were not pleased

‘I’m Snow White, can i stay a while?’

She asked the one with the ears

They nodded slowly, no one spoke

She got right out of bed.

And with that they followed her down the stairs

And i flew overhead

She made them dinner

We all sat down

And that’s how the story started

As for the bad bits

We will skip them now

I rather like the way it is

Happiness and lots of smiles

Snow white, seven dwarves and

Me the little red robin

Who watched the story unfold.
