Outside the window

From the noisy bustling office

warm, musty and dark

shards of bright light stream in

branch shadows dance on the desk

swirling, twisting, slowly then quickly

as I stare at the window I

light fluffy clouds race by

they tease me to join them

the empty trees sway in the breeze

the world looks silent through the window

my mind wanders, to faraway places

to distant lands, to sun kissed oceans

my dreams take me away from my desk

to warmth, colour and squeals of delight

distant forests with chattering birds

floating lazily in downstream backwaters

hot sandy beaches and ice cold beer

a ring of the phone

I’m back in reality

gazing once more

outside the window

Waiting Game

I've waited an hour
the doctor is late.
eyes glazed over.
The will to live is dying.
I've stopped clock watching.
Time stands still.
Whispering voices
Pings of phones
an automated voice
announcing names,
its hot in here
No space to move
Coughing and sneezing
Shuffling feet
Time ticks by
An hour an hour
what could I have done,
married a couple,
had afternoon tea,
gone for a swim,
put up that curtain rail,
cooked a stew,
gone to Pilates,
watched my favourite show.
An hour slipped by,
I look at the floor,
my shoes are dirty,
I look at some more,
worn out trainers,
muddy boots,
High heeled shoes
flip flops,
And slippers
the waiting room is full,
they are standing now.
How much longer
I could ask if I dare
But if I move
My seat will be taken.
I wait a bit longer
I look at my watch
I'm brave,
I ask,
they direct me away,
down a corridor
to another room,
to start a new waiting game.

The Memory lives on

As we come together

A meal in hand

Cullen skink

Haggis and neeps

Clootie samosa

Shortbread and whisky

Recitals of poems

You wrote to be read

A man’s a man for A’ that,

To a mouse and

Auld lang syne

We remember

The red red rose

As we get kilted up

In our tartan of old

And remember your live

Rabbie burns

And with tradition

We celebrate

The 25th of jan

And your memory

To all lives on

Transportation

chocolate

A sphere of white chocolate

A bright yellow band

An innocent look

Lush in my mouth

Oozes creamy chocolate

Laced with moijito

Melts in my mouth

I close my eyes

Just for a moment

I hear the waves of the sea

Feel the warmth of sun

Cocktails of an evening

Transported back

From this cold place

To paradise

Traditional Start

messiah

Huge hall filled with people

Anticipation and excitement

Then silence all around.

The violin plays the opening notes

People stand as one huge choir

Voices fill the air

Harmonious in unison

Remembering the king of kings

The celebration of Christ being born

Notes strengthen, confidence rises

Singing Glory to God

For unto us a child is born

Lastly, belting out Hallelujah

Raises the roof

A jubilant performance

One never seen before

Being part of a mass

Singing in harmony

The start of my Christmas celebrations.

Half moon

I saw the moon, I thought of you

This half moon shining brightly

Do you see the same moon I see?

Is yours as bright as mine?

This half moon I see,

It radiates happiness

From my side it is so bright

It captures my thoughts

It shares them with the stars

They twinkle brightly

We search for the stars we know

Stories unfold, memories shared

As the dark sky fills with tiny lights

So even when you’re not with me

And when the clouds are dark

The moon is always there

Waiting for the moment

To share its light once more

So you can see the moon

Is it look the same as mine?
