The cruellest month

There is no tease to February

Long nights, Short days,

Deep grey clouds, blanket the sky

Icy cold winds, bringing snow and hail

Sun is hidden, almost forgotten

Snowdrops fight to emerge

From the hard dark ground

Icy air hangs, still no movement

Warmth had long been forgotten.

February makes no apologies

It does not promise warmth or light

It does not promise bursting flowers

It does promise the hopes of spring

February may be the cruellest month

but its full of honesty.

Mud Zombies

Dark deep black pool

Bubbling gently, steam rising

Squelching mud

Oozes between my toes

Hot, sticking to my skin

Entering slowly, being engulfed

Disappearing within the dark slimy mud

All is quiet and still

Emerging from the pool

Each one covered

Bright eyes, white teeth

Skin black, faces covered

Struggling to stand

Slipping underfoot

Sliding, laughing, talking

Zombies awkwardly climbing out

Dark grey fades to light

Skin taught, crackling skin

Zombies moving slowly

Towards a hot pool

Diving in

Emerging quickly

Zombies disappeared

We are people once again.

Summer weather

Storm clouds gather, darkening the sky

Water streams from them with hail

Thunder rolls and crashes around me

The sky is light with sheets of lightening.

Wind blows them away quickly

The sky becomes a brilliant blue

The leaves on the trees so fresh and green

Sun’s rays, quickly warms the air

Summers weather unpredictable

Soaking up the sun, heat on our skin

Smiles on our faces, happiness in our hearts

What do I know?

So today’s NapoWrimo prompt Is to write a poem about things I know. There are a few of then :-

sea

The sun makes freckles appear on my face

I need my woollen hat when there’s an icy cold wind

That I can’t touch the bottom when I swim out at sea

That the blue Ink in my pen will turn black in time

.

When my mobile is on silent it won’t make a noise

Singing makes my heart happy,

And grey days make me sad

the strawberry top seashell is very special to me

.

I know where ever I am

what ever the weather

If I can see the sea

I know I am at peace

A love dying

Grey is the sky

hard is the day

my thoughts lie with you

in this mixed moment

you should be smiling

your wedding day

yet this is the last act

no more cherished moments

no long life together

but the memories built

they stay in the heart

a moment of joy

a lingering kiss

a love may lie dying

so may today

carry you through.
