Todays poem was inspired by a beautiful skyscraper photo taken of the Twisted Torso in Malmo, Sweeden

twisiting torso

White innocence

Against a deep blue sky

Brightness shinning

Against the lush green trees

Slowly rising

From foundations deep

You turn with strength

Clockwise, each segment

Spirals relative to the next

Each pentagonal floor

Rotates around its vertical core

Your heart pulsates

Increasing, expanding,

Escaping, breaking free

Earth holds you bound

Yet reaching into the sky

Air flows freely

Peace all around

Your torso twists

Like a human being

Contorting, growing

Beauty in your structure

Sit back and relax

Peace echos around me

the gentle tick of the clock

the hum of the fish tank

soft rustles of the trees

mellow coos of the dove

Slow deep long breaths

eyes restfully closed

minds eye focused

thoughts drifting in the breeze

the calm before the storm

silence is golden

peace to my ears

Green grey sea crashes forcefully

Booming waves land on the pebble beach

Fine spray shooting upwards the rocks,

Landing on the top, showering the limpets

Dark rock pools swell and rise

With swirling sea and small white crests.

Soft powder blue sky and tiny wispy clouds

Broken up by Vapour trails crisscrossing

Bright yellow sun beats down,

Glistening wet pebbles at the water edge

Heat of the sun warms the spring air,

An icy nip brushes against my face

Seagulls soaring on the warm breeze,

Gracefully across the pale blue sky

A small boat, bobs up and down gently,

Looking closely it thrashes around,

Smashing into the greying waves,

Fine spray flies upwards

Wind whips becoming stronger, harder, faster

Waves move in strongly,

The forceful wind, the waves crashing,

he seagulls screaching is peace to my ears

As I lose myself in my own thoughts

In the spring sun on the beach.

New life

Newness is hiding, tight in a bud

Protected by a sheath so fine

Harsh winds blow

Frost is bitter

Rain falls heavily

Yet the bud is sheltered

It’s out of harm’s way.

Sun climbs high in the sky

Warming the earth

Its rays heat the air

Bud is stirring

Pushing hard, the sheath released

Slowly opening,

Releasing each petal

It triumphantly stands,

Swaying in the breeze

It bows its head

To the glorious sun

A new life has begun.

Poppy for a life

As I walked with the crowd

the end in sight

a river of red poppies

out before my eyes

silence deafened me

Stillness around me

I stood, looked watched

thoughts of families

from my past

fighting for king and country

gave their lives

for peace for all men

still the pain lives on

so now I join others

each with a memory

and each one with a poppy

keeps each person alive

may they never fade

and may we always remember

without those who died

we may not be here
