Able bodied seaman

Day seventeen of Napowrimo.  Quite a silly poem today, of a nautical theme.

The galleon set sail
It left the land behind
The mainsail catching
The apparent wind
Across the ocean wide
The blinded Able bodied seaman
Was sent to keep and eye
For storms, Pirates and land
And from the east a ship appeared
As a dot in the horizon
It headed towards them
At great speed
The captain saw the ships gaining
Shaking in his boots
The ship levelled, pirates jumped
Commotion was all about
Abandon ship the captain shouted
As the Pirates put out the gang plank
And one by one the sailors jumped
Into shark infested waters
The moral of this little tale
Is one plain and simple
Make sure your able bodied seaman
Is able in his eyes
So he can see the Pirates ships
And save the sailors lives.

Half moon

I saw the moon, I thought of you

This half moon shining brightly

Do you see the same moon I see?

Is yours as bright as mine?

This half moon I see,

It radiates happiness

From my side it is so bright

It captures my thoughts

It shares them with the stars

They twinkle brightly

We search for the stars we know

Stories unfold, memories shared

As the dark sky fills with tiny lights

So even when you’re not with me

And when the clouds are dark

The moon is always there

Waiting for the moment

To share its light once more

So you can see the moon

Is it look the same as mine?

If I painted a picture

If I painted a picture

What would you see?

A bright moon shining

In a blue velvet sky

Glistening in the dark sea

.

If I painted a picture

What would you see?

Warm breeze running through

My sun kissed hair

Ruffling it up

.

If I painted a picture

What would you see?

My smile laughing

As you joke and laugh

Making me happy

.

If I painted a picture

What would you see?

Bright blue skies

Turquoise lagoon

Water lapping at our feet

.

If you painted a picture

What would I see?

You smiling back at me

You laughing, your happiness

You being you, me being me

Kiss Me Quick Hat

As the tide washes up

On the pebble beach

The sun starts to fade

Feet sink into pockets of sand

Squeals come from the sea

One foot on the pier

We tentatively step

With music blasting

And ‘kiss me quick’ hats

The soft ice creams

And the slot machines

You kiss me,

Wind blows in my face

Seagulls screech overhead

People bustle and bump

With hot dogs and pancakes

Laughing and joking

Kids running around

As I trip on the planks

I look down through the gaps

Will I fall, will they break

Will I get sucked out to sea?

Not today you hold my hand

The smells of sweet sugar

Chocolate and sea

Fill me with images of my childhood

Henna tattoos and stalls filled with tat

Yet all of them bustling

Things to take home

To put in a box

For the memory game

Much later in life.

The fairground rides

Perched on the end

And the haunted house

Makes me smile

I look at you

You look out to sea

At the boats bobbing along

At the men with fishing rods

At the kids jumping in

Where they should know better

Then you glance at me

And smile

No words exchanged

What thoughts in your mind

Are they a jumble like mine?

As we step off the pier

Join the throng of the crowd

The seaside experience

Left behind

With the ‘kiss me quick’ hat

And a smile and a laugh

And memories built

Which were made to last.

A Perfect View

From the top of the hill

Forest stretches afar

Green patchwork hills

Sapphire blue sky

Wispy vapour trails

A  perfect view.

.

From the top of the cliff

Deep blue sea, Sun shimmering

White crests rising

Sailing boats bob up and down

Seagulls soar on the breeze

A perfect view

.

From the office window

Dark green trees

Blowing gently in the wind

Patchwork hiss in the distance

Pigeons bask in the sun

A perfect view

.

From the bedroom window

Small garden bursting with colour

Squirrels scampering across fences

Bees and flies sharing the air highways

Regardless of weather

Each a perfect view.

Something New – Poetry Journal

When Rio suggested a poetry journal excitement ran through me with such force, I realised that I had to give it a go.I know I like to write a poem on a daily basis and it is often very random. Here was an opportunity to write a poem which might reflect my mood, where I am at, what my thoughts are on a given day and what made me write a poem.

So here goes, Something New to get my teeth into. So today’s poem came from the inspiration of a surfer who I chatted to on twitter. Mad I know. I don’t surf and never have done, however he made me feel that I wanted more to life. I wanted perfection each day, what ever that may be.

Blue Skies as far as the eye can see

Surf rolling, high crests rising

Sun sparkling on the waters edge

Surfers riding the waves

Hope paddling out,

shock as the wave is caught,

Amazed as each wave is ridden,

Ecstasy as they glide with the water,

Disbelief of the power of the wave,

freedom, speed with the breaking surf,

Spiritual feeling, at one with nature,

One foot in the sand

one in the water

waiting for the perfect wave.

My Random Musings

What do I know?

So today’s NapoWrimo prompt Is to write a poem about things I know. There are a few of then :-

sea

The sun makes freckles appear on my face

I need my woollen hat when there’s an icy cold wind

That I can’t touch the bottom when I swim out at sea

That the blue Ink in my pen will turn black in time

.

When my mobile is on silent it won’t make a noise

Singing makes my heart happy,

And grey days make me sad

the strawberry top seashell is very special to me

.

I know where ever I am

what ever the weather

If I can see the sea

I know I am at peace
